About the master classes at the academy

The number of prestigious musicians (Juanjo Mena, Péter Csaba, Fabián Panisello, Zakhar Bron, Mihaela Martin, Nobuko Imai, Frans Helmerson, Felix Renggli, Hansjörg Schellenberger, Pascal Gallois, David Guerrier, Galina Eguiazarova, Márta Gulyás, and Francisco Araiza) staying during those days at the Jesús de Monasterio Conservatory is very high and the young musicians make effective use of all that knowledge.

Those attending the Encounter have been directly invited, after several auditions by Maestro Péter Csaba, Artistic Director of the Encounter, at the most prestigious music schools in Europe. This year, the institutions which take part in the event are: the Royal Academy, the Royal College and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama from London; the  Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler and the Universität der Künst from Berlin; the Conservatoire de Paris, and the Koninklijk Conservatorium from Brussels, the music academies Ferenc Liszt in Budapest, Santa Cecilia in Roma and Sibelius in Helsinki; and, of course, the International Chamber Music Institute and the Reina Sofía School of Music from Madrid, the event’s host.

Chamber music

Apart from the one-to-one classes, the Encounter, as the name suggests, focuses on group work. Instrument teachers conduct chamber group rehearsals and some have specifically been requested to lead different ensembles of various sizes, usually playing themselves their instrument together with the young participants.

Since its first edition, the Encounter has given a great importance to chamber music, because, besides providing an academic and artistic path to a very attractive and not enough promoted repertoire; it provides very useful formative elements and leads to a very enriching interaction between young musicians and acclaimed artists. In fact, the joint work of music is what provides the Encounter with its distinctive personality
